Trying something new for my monthly playlist post! I usually just send the playlist no questions asked, but this time, I wanted to have a little fun with it.
February is bleak. The world is cold, the sun is a rumor, and if you so much as glance at a Hallmark aisle⦠forget it.
But love? Love is complicated. Itās sweet, itās gut-wrenching, and it shows up in all kinds of ways. This playlist is for all of itāwhether youāre slow dancing in the kitchen, scream-singing Fleetwood Mac, or swearing undying devotion to your dog, this mix has something for you.
The Soundtrack For...
š Locking eyes with your 7-year-old as you assign them the role of Lindsey Buckingham while you scream-sing as Stevie Nicksādramatic hand gestures included. They resist at first, but deep down, they grow to love it... and now you've created a monster. Oh, is that just me? Lol.
š Confidently sending unhinged texts to the group chat, then immediately spiraling, convinced theyāve started another chat without you called 'NOT SARAH'āand having an anxiety attack in the corner just in case.
š¾ Telling your pet, after a glass of wine, that youāre deeply sorry your children have usurped their place as your one true love. They pretend not to care, but you both know the betrayal runs deep.
šÆ Lighting an expensive candle the one day a year itās not purely for decor purposesāso itās a little dusty, but it still smells nice.
š Dancing with your little Valentines, your Galentines, your imaginary Valentines
A Few Standout Tracks
š¶ āIt Takes Twoā ā Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston
The duet that reminds you being alone is fine, actually. (But still, fun to sing both parts dramatically.)
š¶ āFool for Loveā ā Lord Huron
For when you want to pretend youāve been wronged by a cowboy in another life.
š¶ āFade Into Youā ā Mazzy Star
If you havenāt stared wistfully into the distance while this plays, are you even alive?
š¶ āSilver Springsā ā Fleetwood Mac
A masterpiece of poetic vengeance. My 7-year-old, wise beyond her years, became obsessed with the live video of Stevie and Lindsey staring deep into each otherās souls and watched it every night for six months. Honestly? I get it.
š¶ āSigned, Sealed, Deliveredā ā Stevie Wonder
Proof that not all love is tragic. A brief respite from the existential doom of February.
Pair It With...
š· A dangerously full glass of something red (or a juice box, weāve all been there)
š„” Day-old Chinese takeout that you swear still tastes great (questionable, but fine)
š¶ A dog who is deeply confused about why youāre singing to them
šŗ A family-wide dance party in your kitchen, featuring one person who takes it way too seriously
š A grand, cinematic sigh while imagining you're the main character (because obviously, you are)
Anyway, enough of my ramblingsā¦
